In his 88th year, as he wished, in the peace and comfort of his beloved home on Monday, July 4th, 2016, with his children at his bedside. Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and family man who worked gladly and tirelessly to provide and care for his loved ones. Loving father of Janice Currie of Owen Sound and Robert and his wife Brenda of Nova Scotia. Loving grandfather of Russell, Grant and Alana. Predeceased by his beloved wife, partner and best friend, Pat (May 25,2015), and by his parents and siblings.

Raised on a Keppel Township farm, Dad had an abiding love for the land and a tireless work ethic. Though a “Jack of all trades and a Master of many” his chosen career was in the profession of marine propeller repair where he achieved an incomparable reputation for excellence.

In a career spanning 40 years and three provinces (Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia) Dad became well known and respected as one of the best propeller repair specialists in the business.

Upon his retirement, he was encouraged to consult and teach his skills to others. Dad declined, stating that he had enough bronze dust in his blood and in the pores of his skin to last a lifetime. Instead, he kept busy gardening, maintaining and renovating his own and family’s homes and properties. His lifelong hobby and passion was the preservation and restoration of antique automobiles.

Dad met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Allen, while learning his trade at Kennedys. Mom and Dad had a wonderful marriage.  As they were together in life, we knew that they would not be long separated by death.  Though we will grieve the loss of our parents until we meet again at Heaven’s gate, we are comforted that they are together again, for eternity.

Friends will be received on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am, at the Tannahill Funeral Home, 1178 4th Ave West, Owen Sound, 519 376 3710.  Interment Zion Cemetery. 

Memorial donations to Central Westside United Church, the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce or the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre would be appreciated by the family.
