Our Professional Service Charge
The merchandise and services shown on this list are those we can
provide to our clients. You may choose only the items you desire.
However, any funeral selections you make will include a charge for
our services. If legal or other requirements mean that you must
purchase any items not specifically requested, we will explain the
reasons for this in writing. This will be shown on the Statement
of Funeral Goods & Services Selected.
This list does not include prices for any items that you ask us
to purchase, such as cemetery or crematory services, flowers and
newspaper notices. The prices for such items will be shown on your
Statement of Funeral Goods & Services Selected.
Professional Services
Funeral Director and Staff
The biggest factor is the time element in terms of our personnel.
Our funeral directors and staff and facilities must be available
24 hours a day, every day of the year. Therefore our cost of operation
goes on 168 hours per week. This includes the personal and professional
services of the Ontario Licensed Funeral Director. Responsibility
for all decisions and consultations on all arrangements and details
according to your needs and wishes. Co-ordination and direction
of all arrangements with hospital, nursing home, clergy, cemetery
or crematorium and all related support services both before and
after the funeral service. Responsibility for all legal documents
in connection with the Vital Statistics Act. Preparation of contracts,
related correspondence and invoices. Preparation and placement of
media notices. Organization and direction of staff and assistants
in all aspects of conducting the period (s) of visitation and funeral
service with dignity and thoughtful understanding. Supervision of
all details. The general staffing, cleaning and maintenance of the
funeral home and grounds. Telephone coverage 24 hours a day. Preparations
for the visitation time (s). Receiving, organization and arranging
of floral tributes, collection, placement and distribution of memorial
donations. Other duties involved with various rites and services
during the visitation. This may include one private and up to three
public periods. All preparations necessary for the funeral service
itself. Staff to assist and direct the service. Supervision of all
details for the service either in our chapel or our attendance and
arrangements for set up in a church or other location. Arranging
for local delivery of floral arrangements according to your needs
and wishes. Post-funeral follow up with enrollment in our After
Loss Help Letter Program
Documentation:
Obtaining the necessary information
to complete the legal requirements of the Vital Statistics Act.
Procurement of the doctor’s medical certificate of death.
Legal registration of the death with the local division registrar
and obtaining the burial/cremation permit. Obtaining coroner’s
certificates when necessary. Completing and filing our records and
provision of the funeral director’s statement of death certificates.
On full-service traditional arrangements, the providing of a leather
bound memorial register book, acknowledgment thank you cards, cards
for each of the pallbearers. Memorial folders for family and friends.
Personalized, laminated death notices to the immediate family. Twenty-five
first class stamps. After the funeral information package entitled
“What Now” complete with death benefit application forms,
if applicable. Pen and family enclosure portfolio.
Professional Embalming
The preparation, preservation and disinfection of the body of the
deceased. All personal and professional care given the deceased.
Embalming is not a requirement of the law. However, some funeral
arrangements such as funeral with open casket viewing, or under
special circumstances, we strongly recommend that embalming be performed.
You are usually free to select a funeral service that will not require
embalming if you do not wish it.
Other Body Preparation
The general handling of the body and necessary precautions. The
dressing or shrouding of the body. Washing, cosmetology and hairdressing.
Placement of the body in the casket or cremation container. The
exterior sanitation and disinfection of the body when no embalming
is authorized.Facilities and Equipment
Use for viewing/visitation and services at Funeral Home or other
off premise location (Church)
The use of the funeral home for receiving and reception of relatives
and friends during the visitation period (s) and the day of the
funeral service. Use of the parking area, other rooms, washrooms
and coffee lounge and supplying and equipping the lounge area. The
following equipment is also used during these times: register stand,
casket bier, flower and donation stands, sound system and any necessary
religious or fraternal equipment. This charge also applies for the
necessary staff and set-up time to conduct the visitation or funeral
services at an off premise location.
Use to Prepare/Shelter Remains
All necessary equipment, instruments and supplies for professional
embalming and all care of the deceased as required under the Funeral
Director’s and Establishments Act. Costs of registration and
disposal of hazardous waste materials. This room is used in all
cases to prepare and or shelter the body while awaiting funeral
rite or final disposition.
General Funeral Home Use
This charge is made for the use of the facilities and equipment
of the funeral home including all areas open to the public; room
for the arrangement conference, casket selection room and parking
area. Property and commercial business taxes, general and liability
insurance and the cost of all utilities. All facilities and equipment
legally necessary to operate as an Ontario Licensed Funeral Establishment
under the Ontario Funeral Director’s and Establishments Act.
Automotive Equipment
The costs shown for the vehicles include the cost of gasoline and
general and liability insurance, cleaning, repair and maintenance.
An additional charge of $1.50 per kilometre, one way will also be
added for each vehicle required to travel beyond our 50 km. area.
Transfer to Funeral Home
The properly equipped car to transport the body from the place of
death to the funeral home.
Funeral Coach
The use of this specialized vehicle includes the transportation
of the deceased from the funeral home to the place of final funeral
rite and or church, cemetery or crematorium.
Clergy/Lead Car
Transportation of the clergy to and from the church and/or the cemetery.
Leading of the funeral procession.
General Automotive Use
The car necessary for use by the funeral home personnel in making
arrangements, picking up and filing documentation necessary for
our services, and any other trips in conjunction with the services
being performed. It may also be necessary to make an advance trip
to the cemetery to survey the burial site. This may also include
the delivering of floral tributes to the church, cemetery or other
selected destinations. Limousine, as needed, for trips to and from
the funeral home, cemetery or crematorium on the day of the funeral
service.
