James (Jim) Robert McArthur

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Robert (Jim) McArthur, born October 29, 1932.  He died peacefully in the early morning of Monday April 29, 2019.

A vital, passionate and talented man, Jim was a gifted athlete who gave of his skill and time to coach football and volleyball.  He was a visual artist in acrylic and watercolour who exhibited his work in many locations in Owen Sound.  Jim was a dedicated supporter and advocate for the arts and for local theatre, in particular as a set designer for many local productions.  Jim was also a craftsman with words, whose life touched the lives of many; as a teacher he worked with over five thousand students in his lifetime.  Many speak of receiving inspiration and direction from their time in his classes.

Jim is remembered with love by a large circle of friends and family.  His memory is honoured by his wife Fran McArthur, his sister Margaret Scobie, his two children, Lee and Keira McArthur, his four grandchildren, Dominie McGruer, Max, Ben and Anna von Holtzendorff and his two great grandchildren Sebastian and Felix von Holtzendorff.  His passing ripples deep in the lives of his loved ones.

A celebration of the life of Jim McArthur will take place at Leith Church, 419134 Tom Thomson Lane, Leith on Monday, June 3rd at 2:00pm to be followed by a reception at Coffin Ridge Winery, 599448 2nd Concession North, Annan from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to either the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound or Princess Margaret Cancer Center (Dr. Lipton and the Leukemia Team) is most welcome, in the name of James Robert (Jim) McArthur.
