Quietly, with family at her bedside at Summit Place, Marj Morley passed away on Saturday evening, March 21st, in her 92nd year. Born Marjorie McDonald, December 22, 1928 to William and Daisy, she was older sister to Audrey Harris and Douglas McDonald, both deceased. She married William (Bill) Morley (d. 2009) in 1948 and they had five children. Marj is survived by her daughter Cheryll and her husband Randall “RJ” Eldred, Brad and his wife Rose, Dwight, and Scott and his wife Hesty. Son, William Dean predeceased her in 2012. As well, she leaves eight grandchildren: Katrina, Chuck, Claire, Neil, Jacob, Georgia, Mikayla and Isabelle, along with great-grandchildren Rayden, Ethan, and Scarlett. Marj also leaves beloved sister-in-law Bernice McDonald, former daughter-in-law Susan Tolton, and eight nieces and nephews. Her long-time dear friend and companion Bob Graham passed away in February 2020.
A lover of anything chocolate, vigorous walks, curling, bridge, “The Farm,” and chatting, she was a champion socializer as well as traveller and trailer camper. Her life was marked by generosity and great kindness as her many blood-donor certificates and her work with the Day Away Program at Lee Manor make clear. As well as a loving wife and mother, Marj was a seamstress, bridge teacher, jewellery clerk (Rennie Garen’s Jewellery), physiotherapy assistant, stained-glass craftperson, and extraordinary dill pickle maker. Her knitting skills and productivity were widely admired. She loved to laugh, tell stories around the campfire at Roth Park, volunteer widely, and play euchre at Christmas.
Many thanks to the staff at Summit Place Lodge and its long-term care facility, as well as the staff at the emergency department of the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre.
A gathering at a later date will be announced so that together we can celebrate Marj’s life.
Donations to Community Living Meaford, the Day Away program at Lee Manor, or a charity of your choice, would be most appreciated.
