Our ‘Wild Colonial Boy’ has returned to his home. Instead of leading those kitchen table sing-a-longs, he is leading the choir of angels with his thunderous voice, and even God is telling him to ‘keep it down’.
A man who never did things quietly or subtly, Patrick has left us with many amazing (and sometimes unbelievable), stories of his adventures. If people live on in one’s memories, Patrick will live forever.
A most respected man, Patrick had an immense presence. He was a husband, a father, a Papa, a teacher, a loyal friend, a mentor, a Knight, an eloquent narrator, a literary aficionado, a booming voice, a man of faith and a bargain hunter extraordinaire!
Much loved and missed by his wife, Patricia (Hoffman), his children Shannon (Tony Jang), Dan (Tanya Leis), Kelly (Sean Dunbar) and Matthew, his 14 grandchildren: Madison, Rhys, Nathan,, Gabriella, Kaelem, David, Adam, Kevin, Andrew, Alex, Megan, Eamon, Ethan, Molly, and the many souls he touched and helped over his eighty-six years.
Like Tane Mahuta,
the greatest tree in his native home of New Zealand,
Patrick stood ‘tall’ among us.
‘Kua hinga he Totara i te wao nui a Tane’
