Wendy Joan (Allen) Jones

Suddenly, at Hannah Walker Place, Owen Sound on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in her 80th year. Joan, loving mother of Wendy Arnott nee Jones (John), and Sandi Jones (Christopher). Proud Grandmother of Allen Arnott (Karly), and Sarah Arnott (Cole Wendland). Dear sister of Beverly Brough-Bartlett (Paul). Former wife of Tom Jones. Predeceased by parents Les and Joy Allen of Wiarton.

Joan was a long time teacher at Hillcrest, Rockview, and East Linton, and very active in the teachers' federation at the county and provincial levels. In the latter part of her teaching career, Joan pioneered computers in Grey County classrooms, beginning a dynasty of women in technology passing the torch to her two daughters, both of whom reached executive level technology roles.

After retiring, Joan became active as a volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association and a longtime board member of the CMHA Grey Bruce chapter, including service as the chapter's President. She also served on the Boards for the CMHA Ontario Division for six years and CMHA National for two years. In 2008, Joan was awarded the June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism for her many contributions to mental health.

Joan enjoyed visits from friends, neighbours, and family, and doted on her beloved rescue dogs. A devoted and loving Nana, Joan was very active in the lives of her grandchildren including celebrating holidays together at Wendy & John's, sitting in the front row at Allen & Karly's wedding, and having long coffee chats with Sarah (grande latte extra hot).  At 75, she was thrilled to visit Sandi in Hong Kong, and she loved having spirited debates with her son-in-law Christopher across a seemingly endless variety of topics.

She will be missed and remembered by many.
